BENEFITS OF CORE AERATION & OVER SEEDING
What is Core Aeration?
Core Aeration involves perforating the soil with holes that allow air, water and nutrients to penetrate into the grass roots.
Our aeration equipment removes small cores of soil from your lawn. These cores are approximately 2 inches deep and are removed every 4-5 inches apart. The cores gradually dissolve back into the soil and the turf roots grow back into the small holes that were created in the process.
When Should Homeowners Start to Think About Aerating?
The best time to aerate your lawn is in early fall (you can also do it in the spring). We recommend doing it in the fall because after aerating the lawn, it is a perfect time for fertilization or over-seeding. Doing this before winter will get your lawn off to a great start in the following spring.
Never aerate during the hot summer months. Your lawn will need time to heal and grow and it’s much harder during the summer drought and heat.
Why Lawn Aeration?
During the hot summer months, the soil becomes compacted from heavy traffic on the lawn or long periods of standing water. If you have pets or children that like to run and play in the yard, you will most likely have a soil compaction problem.
Excessive amounts of thatch is also a cause of soil compaction. Thatch suffocates the soil, not allowing the ground to receive what it needs to stay healthy and strong.
Core aeration solves all of these problems. When the plugs are removed air, nutrients, and water will be able to reach the grass roots. This makes the grass healthier, more resilient, and thicker.
Also, a thicker and healthier lawn will help keep weeds and pests away.
What are the benefits of overseeding?
Overseeding allows new grass varieties to be introduced to a lawn to resist diseases and insect attacks. Similarly, as a lawn thickens with the new seed growth, it will also be better suited to crowd out weeds.
Best of all, new plant growth and subsequent thickening of the lawn will provide you with an aesthetically pleasing property.
